    Works great after some tweaking

I bought this to store my 10ft kayak and so I can easily lower it onto my car roof without manually raising it. I found the directions a bit confusing. The parts were not identified, just numbered, but they were identified by name in the instructions so it wasn't clear which was which. Also, some parts were unused so I don't know what they were for. The manual recommended putting the pulleys 6 feet apart, but since my kayak was only 10 feet long, the straps just slipped off the ends of the…

Good for the price good for watersports

If you have an easy install they will work as supplied. However, be prepared to think a little. Whether your warehouse has high or low ceilings or rafters, let your creativity run free. Basically, a factory setup will position the kayak more than 18 inches from the ceiling resulting in the floor being at head height and likely hitting the car if attempting to store over a car or truck. The instructions state that the brackets can be used on joists hanging in any direction, but they cannot be…

Works but bad. BYO screws are junk for installing hardware.

Bought two for their kayaks. The instructions say to place the pulleys 6 feet apart. We have 10 foot flat water kayaks. We followed the instructions exactly. 4 screws broke off when my husband screwed them in - I had to use his own he had on hand (how can you trust the quality of the rest of the device when the screws don't even hold up to assembly?!). Then we tried to put the kayak in the straps and they kept slipping because the pulleys were too far apart! So we first tried tying them…

    Works, but with difficulties

This is my first kayak tour. It was pretty easy to install, although the instructions weren't great. If you have even a little mechanical skill you will understand. What surprised me was how difficult it actually is to lift the kayak. Of course I'm 60 years old, but I'm not weak. The fishing kayak weighs about 100 pounds. I have to wear soft gloves or the ropes dig into my skin and it hurts terribly, but I don't think it's the elevators' fault. Just don't buy it because you think it's easy to…

    Good product but HORRIBLE hardware

I've never had any of the mounting hardware break, especially considering how thick the draw bolts that come with them are. However, TWO screws broke, even in the pre-drilled holes. As if the head would be cut off immediately. That means I had to uninstall, move and reinstall. You must bring your own screws as the ones provided are junk. Installation: Use YouTube for installation instructions. Installation is fairly easy except for the part where the rope is pulled through the brake. Once you…

It is what it is. LOL

Well, what did you expect from a little under $30? Yes judging by other reviews - the rope does start to scratch after the first use but I think we have to give it credit for its durability, it should last a couple of years at least depending on how often you lift it up and down and how hard it is. It's a little difficult to "pull up" the kayak with the ropes by myself, I ended up supporting part of the kayak with the ropes. with one hand and pulling the rope with the other to reduce friction…

    It works. in sports

Posted this yesterday: All other comments are encouraged here. I had to screw some 2x8 pieces to the joists because they go the wrong way in my garage. Don't skimp on attaching the wheels to whatever is above, especially the wheel on the "brake side" because when it comes time to lift the kayak, it will take a STRONG effort to lift it. This is not a "block and catch" setup - there are no mechanical advantages to these pulleys. Essentially, you deadlift by pulling hard on a pair of ropes. The…

In addition, an excellent overview that is on site.

My kayak is 11ft 6" long and the straps are slipping off the ends as well. My solution was to tie the rope between the hooks a little shorter than the distance between the two pulleys so the straps don't lengthen the ends of the kayak. Speaking of straps, they simply loop on the ends and aren't adjustable like the instructions say Also the extras mentioned above could be for an older design in my opinion. I think they are brake rollers (why 4?) I am talking about 4 bolts/nuts with sleeves. I…

Serves its purpose, but could be better.

Advantages: Sturdy metal construction. Works well with kayak lift. Cons: As mentioned, the rope isn't the best and has already started to wear out after just a few uses. At some point I'll probably have to replace it. Should be more nylon and less cotton. The instructions were written by a fifth grader from China. Watch the video if you need help. It comes with 4 screws which are shown in the instructions but nowhere mentions how or why to use them. I think they are for when you need to install
