Disappointing Biodegradable Food Holders

My analysis of these food holders showed that they were severely lacking in durability. While the idea of eco-friendly alternative to plastic is enticing, these holders fall apart with any amount of moisture. They cannot hold any liquid or substances that could cause them to sag and split open. The only pro is that they are indeed compostable. However, if they fall apart before you can even use them once, what's the point? Save yourself the hassle and look for other options.

Pros
  • High-quality compostable food bags made from renewable resources.
Cons
  • Some users report that the bags may tear or puncture easily, making them less durable than traditional plastic bags.

My 3rd Best Compost Bag Order

This is my third order for this product as it works well in our situation. I use them to line my compost bin in the kitchen and then we take the compost bin to the compost and discard the contents. If the kitchen waste is not too liquid, we can simply compost the bag and bring the bag back into the house. We throw bags of our regular trash because we know they just don't break down fast enough in home compost. We needed more durable bags than those for home garden compost. They work great for…

Pros
  • USA & EUROPE CERTIFIED - Green Earth's compostable garbage bags meet the most stringent home and municipal/commercial composting standards. They are certified in the USA to the stringent ASTM D6400 BPI specification. Also certified by OK Compost Home, the European standard for 100% compostability in both industrial/municipal and home/home composting facilities.

Top Options

I bought these in May 2020 along with UNNI ASTM D6400 100% Compostable Bin Liners. I compared them back then and used the Unni packages first as they were far better. Not wanting to be wasteful when the Unnies disappeared, I started using them and now I've settled on the last two. They were absolutely horrible to deal with. Bags tear much easier. The bag I just used is torn all over the side, which was a common occurrence. They also decompose quickly (1-2 days) in my (ceramic) compost bin…

Pros
  • USE AND CARE - Suitable for most tall tanks; use within one year of purchase; Store cool and dry.
Cons
  • Out of fashion
