Much lighter than a wet stone

This is a sharpening stone that is much easier to use than a wet stone (the beauty of English homonyms!?). You don't need to soak it for 5-10 minutes and let it dry for 48 hours after use. With a thorough splash of water and a quick clean afterwards, it's ready to go. The best news is that it sharpens quickly and well when one sharpening isn't enough.

Pros
  • Special offer
Cons
  • All Fine

Easy to use, good quality, requires a Nagura stone

Following the advice of some knife sharpeners and sushi chefs, I have the King 1000 and 6000 grit stones. The 6000 grit is finer than the Spyderco Sharpmaker Ultra Fine Stones. I recommend a Nagura stone for leveling and cleaning a 6000 grit surface. I've found that after 1 or 2 grinds, some metal builds up on it.

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Works as expected on cutlery and knife paraphernalia

I used this stone to put the finishing touches on my 210mm Tojiro Gyuto and wow it's sharp - it slices red onions with ease. While this particular stone isn't the largest, it makes a great addition to all of my cutlery. Pay attention to the sharpening angle; too steep and you end up falling into the rock itself which is quite soft at first.

Pros
  • understandable even for the elderly
Cons
  • too dull

Worth the purchase price

Very good value for money, this sharpening stone helped me sharpen a razor, this is the third stone in my development, I needed a cuticle so I wanted to save some money 6000 grit and I tried this one as I have a King Deluxe 1000. I trusted that I wouldn't be let down and I wasn't. I will have no problem buying their more expensive whetstones. No other company offers stones of this quality at such a great price, well done king.

Pros
  • Worth your money
Cons
  • Sad hardware

Hard to rate

It's hard to rate because although the stone is great and perfectly flat, it's damn small. My problem is that I bought one of these over fifteen years ago and after moving it had two cracks on the front which made it unusable. The size of this stone is approximately 3" x 8 1/4" x 3/4". This new version is about 2" x 7" x 1/2". It's almost impossible to polish a set of knives out of a big #7 plane, let alone a #4 plane. I feel cramped even when I use it for chisels! The thickness doesn't reallyโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Always liked
Cons
  • Socket required

Excellent general purpose water stone.

This is the best sharpening stone for the money. It is generally accepted that to sharpen properly, one must start with a coarse grit to remove dull or mechanically fatigued metal, and then sharpen and polish with progressively finer grit. However, in my experience, using this stone for general purposes is generally faster and more efficient. Sharpen unless unusually great care is required. This stone is aggressive enough to produce noticeable results quickly, but fine enough to be used forโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • So-so

Basically, 2000 grit was enough for me and I mostly rode it.

I use for culinary work and have never polished my knives with a 6000-8000 grit polishing stone. Basically 2000 grit was enough for me and I ran it on the stone every 2 weeks to keep the blade sharp. I don't see myself as a knife sharpener by any means, but it was a necessity and I can do it. I just bought this to see if there is a difference and if there is a person. With a 2000 grit stone you can still feel the burrs/small edges that form during the grinding process (especially if you haveโ€ฆ
