The elastic waistband on the back is important to him. If your kid is skinny and 12 years old, I would choose size 14/16 and they can live in it for 2 years.

I was expecting a size 16 but got a size 14. Too small and don't miss son's legs. Not flexible enough and too tight. He could hardly move his legs either. The fabric doesn't stretch, money down the drain. and I live in another country. I sent it to a friend in LA and she brought it to my country and now I can't return it. Too bad too much waste on this short that doesn't even stretch.
