Good, but not great

The Magellan 4200 has several standard features found on more expensive models. Directions are missing. All you get is turn left or right. This part is annoying. You can still mute the device and be fine. I tried finding several addresses and it was pretty accurate. In that sense it's good. I will probably sell it and buy a better model. All in all a decent device. Easy to use.

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Almost never

old magellan: Sports & Handheld GPS

I should have realized the price was too good to be true. Turns out the device I got is a few years old - version 1.3 or something, Magellan is currently at version 4.7 or something like that. It wouldn't be too bad, but it doesn't update, their website doesn't recognize my computer for some reason, and to top it off I can't contact anyone because their website is 'in progress'. For me there is no more Magellan. The rest of the block works perfectly. It's just frustrating.

Cruising a Magellan

I had a very good opportunity to use my Magellan 4200 for an out of state wedding. Provide the address of the church and arrived at the destination within 5 hours drive without any problem. I love it and plan to use it every time we travel to unfamiliar places. You never have to worry about getting lost and the extra features come in handy when you're traveling long distances. Directories of restaurants and gas stations, hotels and motels are available on Magellan. Don't leave home without it!

Pros
  • Sturdy finish

  • Good but not great

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE

I bought this unit on July 9th and expected it to have the latest map update, after getting lost due to its horrible instructions I found it had an older version of maps . After many minutes of waiting and routing, I called the company; I was told to buy the map upgrade from 09. I told them how ridiculous that sounds since I bought the device in 09 and that I have a right to expect the device to have new maps. They briefly said that was their policy, and it was. Save time and money; buy garminโ€ฆ

my first gps experience

I cannot rate this product compared to others on the market as this is my first experience with a gps unit. But of course the price is right, only $100. I bought it for an elderly aunt who is very tech savvy but regularly commutes from Pittsburgh to North Carolina and keeps getting lost. I tried to teach her how to use it myself. So that's my criterion, and at this point I feel like she can probably handle that. (Though this might be my hope triumphing over experience!) Now that I've gottenโ€ฆ
