Assembly of bio wheels. on Filter Accessories

I've learned the hard way that if one of these dries out, they'll never work properly again. I spent days adjusting the water to get the dried wheel spinning properly. Like everything Marineland makes they are of the highest quality and within hours of running water over them they will sync up and rotate just perfectly.

Pros
  • Aquarium Pumps and Filters
Cons
  • Almost Never

Bio replacement wheel for my Marineland Eclipse 3 system

I really like my old Eclipse 3 filter in the hood. Even though it's 15 years old I decided to have it repaired rather than switch to a different filtration system. However, Eclipse systems have been out of production for many years and replacement parts are becoming increasingly difficult to find. I'm glad I found this genuine replacement Marineland bio wheel. It fits perfectly in my Eclipse 3. It's now a spare as the one I have now works fine.

Pros
  • Filter Accessory
Cons
  • Problem

Does it really work?

This item does not need to be replaced but I bought this as a replacement as the old one was second hand. However, I've since read various articles that these bio wheels don't actually work. While the idea is good, the product itself often doesn't provide a good home for beneficial bacteria because of such a small surface area being exposed. I don't quite get it, but I don't have a huge problem with it rotating in the hood of my tank.

Pros
  • Fish & Aquatic Animals
Cons
  • Not sure
