If you look at the picture, the problem is that the wheel is harder than the material it's running on. So it wears down the outer material and is no longer taut, so it cannot inflate the necessary clearance between the impeller and the outer material. Instead of buying this pump you need to buy part of the pump housing.

Bought to replace the noisy impeller on a Marineland Penguin 200 Biowheel (as seen directly from the top of the filter) but the magnet was too small to replace the original. I'm not sure yet, but I think I need the impeller for the Biorad 170. I didn't remove the impeller to measure, but the 170's magnet is about twice the size of this one.

I gave this product 4 stars instead of 5 just because I feel the original product shouldn't have fallen apart so quickly. This is a very unusual review for this product. Normally this product works very well but in this particular case I ordered two impellers for my 200B filter. I've never had a problem with this type of impeller, unless they fail due to the constant running of the pump, if you just swap the element there's nothing special or difficult about the process.
