Not recommended - don't waste your money

I would not recommend this product. The geometry of the wheels is wrong and sharpens the knives very poorly. I was trying to sharpen an old but high quality knife and it became terribly dull due to the design of the sharpener. I wouldn't even buy one of the expensive Global knives next to him. I had to turn in a whetstone and steel knife to repair the damage done by that "sharpener".

Know what you're getting

There are many $20 sharpeners out there. Most just disassemble your knife. When you use it for the first time, you will find that it doesn't work. It actually hangs past your edge, so it takes a few hits (30-40) to do this. After that, the knife stays sharp longer. However, after that it is impossible to use the usual sharper ear, the angle is wrong. Adding water to the product aids the process but makes cleaning and drying more difficult. I like the result but the process is too much for the…

Good for quick sharpening

Can this whetstone sharpen as well as a whetstone, I've found that. First, there is a lot of play in the knife slot, so keeping the knife straight is very important, especially with thin, high quality Japanese knives. Then you have to run it for about 8 strokes with the same light pressure and finally you have to fill it with water so that the stones do not overheat. Yes, a bit dirty, for me sharpening in a hurry is normal, but as I mentioned before, it will not replace a quality sharpening…

TEARS OF REAL JOY. FINALLY A GOOD HAND KNIFE SHARPENER!

After a terrible experience with another brand of knife sharpener, I decided to try this one. I literally can't believe how well this little thing works. My Global actually CUT the paper. Not that this was the end of all sharp knife testing, but it's certainly a great indicator. Of course, I may not be a knife specialist and can probably learn how to properly sharpen knives. But the convenience of a few movements of the sharpener is much more in keeping with my way of spending my time. Instant…

Best sharpness with shortest life for Asian blades

I've had two and am about to buy a third. I've also gifted a set of Asian knives to friends twice (global, shun, etc.). Makes sharpening to a thin edge very easy. While this doesn't give you the sharpness of a sushi chef's microblade like a real wet stone and 30-45 minutes of work, it allows me to dry shave my arm hair in 5 minutes, which is more than most people need. the time limit most people have! I use a wet stone on two of my favorite blades and this sharpener on everything else including

  • Satisfied so far

  • Not as thick as other blades

Far from being a knife sharpening guru, I have a few Global knives and after much trial and error I have successfully honed them with a traditional ceramic sharpening stone using the techniques featured in several YouTube videos sharpened. It is a labor of love that requires a certain amount of time and space to lay out the materials to complete the task. I got this Minosharp 3 a few days ago and was able to get acceptable globals sharpness much quicker than I could with my clunky, clumsy…

It keeps my Global knives in tip-top shape

This is a wonderful sharpener that works really well with my Global knives. I used to have another minosharp sharpener, the one with two smaller wheels. It was good too, but the wheels were worn and wouldn't spin freely. I chose this as a replacement. I love the big wheels on this one. I find it easier to keep the knife in place when I'm rocking the blade back and forth and the wheels are spinning smoothly. It's great to have coarse, medium and fine stones. My chef's knife had a small nick on…

Pros
