The wood is smooth I didn't see any rough edges. The pieces are a good size, I was afraid of choking, but all great for little hands.

Nice tool set. My son (27 months) scoops and fills with no problems. Some of the balls are smaller than I thought but it's great that there is variety. We use sensory bases for Bean Rice Buns, but we can definitely use them for other things as well.

I thought my autistic son would love these toys as he loves filling things like bowls and pots but my 4 year old took to this set straight away and he did did not stop carrying them and playing with them for the last hour; He even brought them into his kitchen.
