poor quality or accident

I've been waiting a week for this Motion Pro 08-0017 valve shim tool for Suzuki to work on my shims. God knows where the broken tip is. We need to dig into the engine. By the way, I don't mind. Very badly done.

Pros
  • Excellent construction
Cons
  • old

Working well, best in detail

Used valve tool 08-0017 on a Suzuki GS500. Worked well but a little tricky to line it up properly on the bucket/pusher. Proper posture requires caution and the use of both hands. However, using this tool is much easier than removing the camshafts.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Failing

Doesn't work so well for GS500f

Doesn't work so well for GS500F. I've had more success holding the valve seals with a screwdriver and have done so with this tool. I first use a screwdriver to push the valve discs down and then use another screwdriver on the side to hold the disc basket open.

Pros
  • Handsfree
Cons
  • Fits

A good tool for adjusting Suzuki DOHC engines.

This is a good quality specialty tool required to adjust the valves on Suzuki dual overhead cam direct drive engines such as the GS1000. It is used to press the valves so the shims can be replaced. Looks almost identical to the original Suzuki instrument.

Pros
  • Dope πŸ”₯
Cons
  • Not bad but...

Shim tool worked as expected

If you get this you already know what it does. I used this to get to the valve seals in my Suzuki GS500E and the tool worked exactly as intended. Words of wisdom I'd like to stumble upon before I get to work: DO NOT ROTATE THIS CAMSHAFT WITHOUT A GASKET IN EVERY BUCKET. Swapping shims, replacing shims, whatever, but an empty shim bucket will gouge the cams badly.

Pros
  • Best
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

A little tricky but this is OEM

It may take some time to use properly but I think the OEM tool is just as bad. I personally think the easiest way to use it is to slip under the cam while turning the valve all the way (i.e. with the cam pointing away from the valve). Just make sure the rib (the middle part that sticks out the most) is over the gasket bucket. Use tweezers to remove and replace the gaskets. Remember never turn over an engine with a missing gasket. If you need to remove more than one seal at a time to juggle…

Pros
  • Very good quality
Cons
  • Nothing
