Overpriced knife. - Seafood tools

The handle feels uncomfortable, the knife tip is too thick. I've been cleaning for 5 years now, this knife is no better than the $20 Dexter Russell I use now. I don't understand what "elite" is in this knife. Put in showcase tbh.

Pros
  • Only positive result
Cons
  • No insurance

Great tool for oysters!

My husband was so happy when we got this. The grip is stronger and easier to hold than the shuker we currently have. He liked the blade with a slightly sharper point and blade. This is the goalkeeper. We would definitely recommend this.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Sad packaging

Works great with west coast oysters!

Took this to Tomales Bay, California to get some oysters. I have never cut my hair so easily in my life. Great knife, a pleasure! Easy to clean with green handle. The New Haven blade fits snugly into the West Coast oyster loop and opens it with ease. Get it and impress your friends, but it's no wonder. You still need some technique to handle it.

I shelled some oysters

This is an almost perfect oyster knife. The blade is on the thin side, so skill rather than brute force is required. not recommended for thick shells over 4 inches. Lateral delaminations are not that big. The curvature of the blade is in the perfect place compared to other knives of this design.

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • Negative is present

Love the craftsmanship and design

I have been cleaning raw oysters for a long time but have never used this curved tip design. I love the craftsmanship and the design. The curved tip is the way to go. Once you've inserted the tip of the knife, all you have to do is apply downward pressure and that alone will open the sink many times. If it's not a light push and twist, it achieves it every time. This knife reduces exertion and fatigue and makes oysters more enjoyable.

Pros
  • Enjoyable
Cons
  • Easy to maintain

Good quality; recommended by Cook's Illustrated

I wish I could say more about this oyster press other than liking it - I used a plastic oxo then read on www.cooksillustrated.com that this one is much better was, so I decided to update. Unfortunately, I'm still new to oyster shelling (I've done it 3 times already), so I really don't know if shelling is better or if I'm getting better. But hopefully it's helpful to tell you that this is a CI favorite. Looks like very good quality!

Pros
  • practical article
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

Great shaker. But chipped 20 uses ago

Great shuker in function and style (although wish the wood handle was sealed/stained etc) but the blade broke before I could shake out 20 oysters a little flimsy and the alloy feels too hard (read brittle). See attached pictures. As preserved, there were machining marks on the underside of the curved blade tip (see photo for parallel grooves), probably indicative of the method of manufacture. I'll see if the manufacturer provides a replacement after contacting me and will update here if…

Pros
  • Like everything before
Cons
  • Band
