Several Pawfly air pumps come with a standard metal valve. I needed an extra one to push through more tanks so I disconnected a tee from the main pump line and another goes to this valve set. Additional backflow preventers are good, but I only use one in the main pump line to prevent backflow from any reservoirs to the orifice. That works fine.

Update! Had previously given a 5 star rating until I found a puddle of water on the floor. The check valve failed completely, allowing water to flow back into the air pump and onto the floor. It's very unsettling to imagine what could happen if the power goes out while you're on vacation. Check valves that work are extremely important and look for a reliable product.

I have several tanks and one of them was very mechanical in nature. No real decoration. Just to ensure proper and good filtration of the tall giants of waste that were put in the tank. use it for I didn't really bother with the included check valves. The quality seemed a bit poor and one had a small tear. I used all 5 but also added 6 next to the pump.

I have to say that this product which comes with optional check valves and hose holders is a real asset. I used check valves because I decided the 5 tank configuration should be identical and I used this valve to run 5 mini sponge filters for my betta fish.
