The small one fits my cat but the tabby sister would be a bit tight so we order a medium size. It's a little lost on a tabby cat, but if we pull the straps about halfway, it will fit her. The main difference between a small harness and a medium harness is the length of the harness that runs along the cat's spine. This is a nice, attractive harness for cats, but there are a few points to consider. The harness fits my solid 10 lb cat very well and is able to stretch as she gains weight. A decorative pattern of a tropical fish is sewn on. If your cat doesn't like the harness, you may soon find out that it's scratched or chewed off and you have a plain black harness.
