I didn't get this vinyl rail to protect the floor or carpet, but to protect the wall next to the litter box. I cut it to size and attached it to the wall next to the tray with strong velcro. It does its job of protecting the wall from "mistakes" when aiming the cat and the debris around. Easy to clean and well protected.

Resilia Hardwood Flooring was purchased after renovating the entire ground floor including the kitchen. They are fantastic for this purpose and are barely noticeable. We started using decorative rugs, but we have a Roomba vacuum that kept getting stuck in the decorative rug materials, but it skidded right over the Resilia. I wanted something to protect my new floors that I store my bike under as I don't have a garage. This is the perfect thing. The size is perfect for my bike. It's transparent so you can see the ground underneath so it doesn't draw too much attention. It is durable and waterproof, protecting the floor well. I bought this item not to use as a runner but to modify it - cut both length and width - to use as extra floor protection use, slightly adjusted and also the clear chair mat I put under the large parrot cage. I am very happy with this product. I've looked everywhere including Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. Most retailers have rug runners with spikes underneath. This is a flat bottom for wooden floors.
