I have had Rockport hiking boots for many years. When I got them I found them very uncomfortable. The tongue feels very stiff and digs into the top of the foot where the tongue meets the upper. I feel like I can make them work, maybe they just soften with wear, but I've never experienced that with Rockports and wouldn't recommend buying them unless you had that particular type of work before. Disappointing.

I originally bought the Rockport from the store to see if I could get a shoe I liked more than "tennis" for a little more. I loved them and the two pairs I bought on ebay were my third and fourth pair. I like them and the price was very right. My only issue is that I can't find replacement liners, which seem to be the only part of them that wears out.

They are not true to size compared to other brands. They are shortened in both width and length and do not correspond to reality in size. The heels don't have the right amount of cushioning for the descent. I will no longer buy them or any other Rockport product because of this feature.

Sturdy, well made and very comfortable. I use ECCO's trendy men's leather insole (about $30) for extra comfort. May not last as long as other brands or styles!

2nd UPDATE: I drove home (Upstate NY) for the holidays and in my free time to the local , a reputable shoe store that I know, has worn this Rockport model in the past. After trying me on the salesman brought me a pair of 12 watts of this model and they fit just like before. I hate leaving bad reviews about something, but in this case I just have to. I've been buying Rockports for years and what draws me to them is how comfortable they are, almost like tennis shoes. But these things are so uncomfortable. There are almost no pads. When you walk on hard surfaces they make a sound like hard plastic on the ground, not as smooth and quiet as I'm used to. I have bought this shoe 3 times in 6 years. The first came from the USA, the next from China and the current one from India. Every boot looks the same, but the current boot will not "shrink in" as it is much stiffer and will rub against the top of the foot. Same size, same look, different fit, of course.
