Excellent quality and price

Can't find anything to complain about. It seems much more durable and well built than I expected. The focus ring is buttery smooth and the aperture ring is about as perfect as I could wish for. I bought it to photograph the Milky Way and it outperforms other fast lenses. It's entirely manual, but focusing is surprisingly easy. True infinity is just below the infinity mark on the lens barrel, so you can't just turn it upside down. Anyway, I'm doing some test shots to make sure the stars areโ€ฆ

Olympus Four Thirds

**Update my review** At first I had the impression that this lens does not work with the Olympus 4/3. It was user error. You have to be really careful when attaching the lens (hold the lens hood and push it on carefully). You must also read about working with a manual lens. Somehow - despite what I've read about using this lens in manual mode - it doesn't work that way! Try iauto. Aperture and distance still need to be adjusted manually, but for some reason the iauto shots look great. In manual

Excellent landscape/astro lens

Nice and wide, compact yet durable lens. The focus ring is nice and difficult to turn, and the aperture ring clicks at every half-stop (not great for video, but perfect for stills). I got some great astro shots after finally figuring out what I was doing. Manual focus only and no lens metadata links. While I'm happy with it for my purpose, looking back I don't think I'll get it again. Around the same time I got an Olympus 12-40 PRO, which at f2.8 wide open versus f/2 wouldn't make much of aโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Vulgarity

That's a great price for a working result. While not a native MFT lens, it's huge for what it is. However, the glass is very good, probably in the order of 90%. what you can get at any price. It's a full mouth. Why doesn't it have a depth of field scale? At this price point, it's normal not to have the scales engraved on the aperture and focus rings. I find the focus ring calibration handy. Cases are welcome. And again wins this price range. That's the focal length I used to always want. I like

Don't let the lack of autofocus stop you

I was arguing between this Rokinon and the Olympus 12 f/2. The main differences are SP and price. I have several Rokinon/Samyang lenses and have always found them excellent. This one is no exception. For a wide angle, autofocus isn't that important. So I tried Olympus Rokinon in less than 1/2. Optically it is excellent even with an open aperture. Sharpness is very even across the frame. I think it's because this lens is designed for larger sensors. It also means I have a lot more flexibility in

Great micro 4/3 option

I was looking for a fast wide angle lens with manual focus for night shots and this is a great option if you can't justify buying a $1,000+ original zoom lens. . I shoot with an Olympus omd m4/3 camera, so I'm a bit limited when shooting in low light. However, at night I was very impressed with this lens, especially for the price. If you're shooting with a Micro 4/3 camera, you can get away with moonlight at f2.8, iso800, a shutter speed of around 10 seconds and end up with crisp, low-grainโ€ฆ
