Poor quality control at Sekonic

I may have gotten a bad one, but I've compared this multimeter to the Sekonic L-328, Canon 7D and Panasonic GF1 and in most cases the readings differed by one stop or more. Sekonic L-328, 7D and GF1 were measured within 1/2 stops of each other. The L-208 matched other gauges about 20% of the time. The remaining 80% of the readings were stopped or more discarded. Sometimes it showed higher, sometimes lower. If that counter was consistently high or low, maybe I could adjust to that. But it was so

Pros
  • Lighting & Studio
Cons
  • Only available in black

Having used the Sekonic light meter for over 40 years I had high hopes for this very small, state of the art version. The supplied hot shoe mount is particularly practical for use with older cameras. Unfortunately had to go back. It feels like plastic garbage but I was willing to ignore it. The unit I received was clearly not working properly, the reading was about 4 levels low and yes I checked the battery is good and the correct voltage. The device probably had a defective reflectedโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Camera and photo
Cons
  • Big and bulky

Very nice little meter

I bought it for several purposes. Going back to black and white film, I wanted something small that would fit in the trunk of my Leica M6 and Kodak Retina. Another reason is that now that I use it a lot, my Sekonic L-478D is draining at an incredible rate. That's partly because I leave it on when I'm shooting, as I don't like the start time every time I want to meter the light. usually immediately with the L-478D. Sometimes it is half a stop away from the L-478D, possibly due to the L-208'sโ€ฆ

Pros
  • light meter and accessories
Cons
  • Crumpled
