Description of Shun Classic 6-inch Ultimate Utility Knife: Versatile, High-Performance Japanese Handcrafted Kitchen Knife with VG-MAX Cutting Core and Damascus Cladding

Shun’s Classic Ultimate Utility Knife is the only knife professional chefs and home cooks need for a wide range of cutting, slicing, dicing, chopping, trimming, spreading and carving needs. The broad, hand-sharpened 16° single-bevel blade is 6-inch (15. 2 cm), with a curved belly that allows the cook to rock the knife on the cutting board when mincing garlic, onions and jalapenos. The Ultimate Utility Knife’s cutting edge has a low-frequency serration perfect for slicing through the thin skin of fruits and vegetables, while the rounded tip is ideal for spreading and buttering. The beautiful and stylish D-Shaped ebony PakkaWood grip handle enhances the elegant, minimalist shape of the knife and complements the swirling patterns of the layered Damascus stainless steel. With its top-quality, multifunctional performance in a home or commercial kitchen and striking, attractive appearance, the Classic Ultimate Utility Knife incorporates the best of form and function.

Great knife suitable for kitchen and dining room

I have been using Shun knives for over 20 years. I am a chef and knife dealer. I don't work for Shun. If your avoidance breaks or breaks, it's not the damn knife's fault, it's you. No dishwasher, no bones, no hard cutting boards. This is a delicate tool, treat it accordingly. Those who say it's expensive have never owned an actual Japanese knife. In comparison, Shun is a real value. This knife is a sandwich knife for rolls and sandwich vegetables. Not suitable for cutting large pieces of bread.

  • Dope 🔥
Cons
  • No power

Versatile for most sandwiches

I didn't think about buying it until I saw Williams-Sonoma selling it at a discount. My favorite bagel and salmon sandwich. Great for slicing hard tomatoes and onions into thin slices (better than sharpened utility knives) and unlike sharpened knives, its spatula-like tip can gently pry the last bits of cream cheese or guac out of a plastic container. However, the blade is too short for slicing panini or BLT cooked on wide slices of bread, but that's so specialized I'm not giving it a star…

A great addition to any kitchen arsenal

This knife is in its class. At first I was a little surprised by the thickness and shape of the blade, as well as the mixed use. I was looking for the perfect tomato slicer and since this knife wasn't made specifically for fruit/veg I didn't know what to expect. I have several Shun products and find them to be excellent. This particular knife proved to be the perfect complement for slicing all kinds of fruit and vegetables and is also great for bread. I use it more often and it doesn't…

Be sure to buy!

I really like this knife! This is my 2nd just because I lost the 1st move. No matter what kind of work, bread, meat, vegetables, this is a knife for the whole family. I actually threw away most of our knives because of this versatile guy, we just don't use him anymore. That's an average weight and he always maintains it! Be careful, it's deceptively spicy! I have a knife sheath. The handle is made of wood, so do not wash it in the dishwasher or leave it in water for a while. It is easy to hand…

A new favorite among cutlery and knife accessories

Bought this knife while it was on the Gold Box promotion. If the knife was at full price I would NOT give it five stars. At a reduced price, this is more than a five star knife. I had an open mind when I first used this knife. I don't know how to convey that a knife goes through food like a hot wire through foam! I use this knife for almost all of the usual prep work that comes with preparing vegetables. It takes no strength or effort to cut through everything I've tried, but it leaves the…

Sharp and handy - utility knife

This is a great knife for slicing crusty bread and making snacks. It is also good for slicing tomatoes and is very comfortable to hold. Bagels don't stand a chance against this knife. Be sure to hand wash this knife only, dry thoroughly with a clean, soft towel and store in a pad or on a magnetic stick. This knife is also very sharp so keep that in mind if you are new to Japanese knives. There are several videos on YouTube showing Elton Brown demonstrating his Shun knives and they are…

Great introduction to Shun knives

This was the first Shun knife I ever bought and I've been so impressed with it that I've bought more knives since. As others have pointed out, this is a versatile knife, useful for everything from bread and sandwiches to thinly slicing soft fruits and vegetables. I bought it mainly for its ability to thinly slice tomatoes, which makes it excellent. It's fairly heavy for a relatively small knife, and the tall blade helps you maintain control when using it with a cutting board (although it does…
