One of my favorite knives

I gave this to my fiancee (not as an engagement gift; just a gift because it's nice to give someone you love, right?!) and I'm almost ready jealous. I love this knife so much! Super versatile and I miss not having one at home. But fortunately this is only temporary.

Pros
  • I hold my fists
Cons
  • Long delivery time

The only problem with these knives is that they are so sharp that you have to be very careful with them. This is a lifetime investment in one of the finest knives on the market. I've had the set for years and only need to sharpen it once a year as I don't use it to shred and trim or shave my beard.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Crossguard

Shun knives in cutlery and knife accessories

Fantastically sharp blades make slicing and chopping easy. Perfect for my medium sized hands and the balance and design keeps my knuckles from hitting the board. With decent sharpening tools you can keep a good edge. There is a lifetime warranty and a service center (I believe in Portland) where you can send your knives in for sharpening.

Pros
  • Ideal for a small home
Cons
  • Empty

This will be the last knife you have to buy

I'm new to quality knives. I cook most of my life. There have always been poor quality knives. A lot of research and I found the Shun brand. Further research eventually stopped and bought it with a 4 inch paring knife. i am sold Sharp, stay sharp. Like everyone, take care of it. I will continue to add to my collection. Thank you Shun for a great product.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Weight

Nice knife but not worth the price

Nice knife but not worth the price. Looks cool, but doesn't bother. I have other damascus blades that are lighter and seem more maneuverable. This knife looks clumsy. I went back to my cheap Henckel Santok which is much lighter and seems to hold the edge better. To each his own. If you value light weight in your cutting tools, this is for you. I gave 5 stars because I didn't find anything wrong with the knife or the workmanship. It is as advertised.

Pros
  • Complete set
Cons
  • No instructions

I majored in cooking, appreciate good steel and have always wanted a shun. That's all it should be, but 5 inches isn't big enough for everything. The blade is delightfully sharp and has helped me cut through the thinnest pieces of brunoise with ease. For a dish like potatoes, Anna, where you need to cut the potatoes into the thinnest, this is a great knife. So far, this is a relatively small potato. All in all a first class utility or paring knife. We need to save up and get a 7 inch one day…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Not the best

How I WANT this 5.5 " Santoku HOLLOW GRIP

The Shun Classic 5.5" Santoku hollow ground I bought in the 1990's. Every year or so I've shipped it along with my other Shun knives. This Santoku Hollow Ground has been my go-to knife to replace for many years. So the search began. I searched the whole network for the 5.5" Shun Classic Hollow Ground Santoku. Now they're as rare as unicorns. Oh, there are hollow ground knives, Shun Classic knives, even an identical replacement for mine. I don't need a chunky 7" "-Blade. And I really wanted a…

Pros
  • Feels great
Cons
  • Low maintenance
