Ideal for safely profile cutting a rough edge, polishing it with a stone and belt to get a really sharp edge, or a light tap to keep your current edge in good condition . Unfortunately, the blades run out quickly and you're pretty quickly at the cutting edge of the tool. It's cheap enough not to be a big deal, but I still think for the price it should last about twice as long.

Easy to use and strong suction cup. This gives you a great blade for a hunting knife, defense blade or everyday use. If you're looking for something that's perfectly razor sharp, this won't work. If you are looking for a sharp blade without the sharpness of a thin angle then this is perfect. I would recommend this for sharpening non-serrated pocket knives or steak knives.

This sharpener works great. The only thing I will worry about in the long run is that when using it I could see it stripping a significant amount of metal within about 8 knife strokes. If I'm a lot less lazy and sharpen my stones, I don't think I'm wasting as much metal. However, if you don't know how or don't have knife sharpening equipment, this is a very inexpensive way to get sharp knives quickly.

Works right out of the box. I use stone for everything, but it's great for remounting the blade on pocket knives, EDC knife boxes, rope without stone soaking, etc. Tested on all kitchen knives. After that I was able to shave my arm. The woman was unhappy, but I bet it will be tomatoes. I'm not sure if all the bad reviews add up to this kind of point. I'm assuming too much pressure is being applied when the knife is pulled. It's like sandpaper, let it sink in, don't force it.

Considering the price and the convenience it offers I cannot recommend any product other than the SOG Desktop Knife Sharpener. Gets razor sharp in less than a minute! Fair warning: this removes more material than normal sharpening, as it creates a new edge each time. I recommend using this to mend a broken blade, but not to mend a blade that is already in good condition.
