It's hard to believe how happy I am with these sharpeners! I have 4-5 that don't work well and finally decided to splurge and get these. How important is a good sharpener! Best for Staedtler at the moment, but also well sharpened for Winsor & Newton, Prismacolor and others. Fingers get dirty since they aren't sheathed, but I'd rather have a great sharpener and wash my hands than clean my hands with the ones I've tried to use!

These Staedtler metal manual pencil sharpeners are perfect for sharpening. The blade is sharp and the large groove makes it easy to remove a broken piece of lead. I didn't have to use this jig however as the sharpener is so well made that I haven't managed to break the guide in the sharpener yet. Just know that there is no catch for scraps thrown away during sharpening. So you don't want the sharpening feature to touch your image so you don't smear little blobs of color across your masterpiece.
