Not recommended unless you enjoy tearing your hair out for hours.

Based on the recommendations and reviews I saw here I decided to buy one of these PCI-E cards as my new MB obviously didn't come with 1394. This was done to connect an M-Audio Firewire device. The device is not working. If you install older OHCI drivers, it works somewhat (it hangs every few minutes instead of not working at all). I literally spent over a day getting this map to work. Nothing makes it work reliably. Before I switched systems and bought this card, I had WIN 7 and FireWire on the

STABLE CARD! My studio settings saved!

I used to have a Startech PCIe Firewire card in my computer. I hooked up an RME Fireface 800 and it randomly crashed my computer after using Cubase for about 30 minutes - most of the time when it was doing nothing. I replaced the cards with these after reading online that cards with TI chips are stable. I ran it all day on Sunday with no problems, and then as a test I looped a Cubase project by running multiple VSTi's for 4 hours in a row. I think this is the solution! And this card is veryโ€ฆ

Pros
  • IEEE P1394b version 1.33+ deployment support. IEEE 1394 OpenHCI V1.0 and V1.1 compliant
Cons
  • Can damage

If after building or purchasing an Intel Skylake Core i7 CPU and ASUS motherboard with legacy Firewire issues for professional audio interfaces, cameras, camcorders, etc., go to do have, This card is the solution to your problem! I was very disappointed after building a cool new $1500 studio computer to run my Pro Tools interfaces and everything. I bought the recommended AVID SIIG N342534X which didn't work. It shows up normally in the OS on both Win7 x64 pro and Win10 x64 pro, but Pro Toolsโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Fully compatible with FireWire, iLink and SB1394 IEEE 1394 implementation
Cons
  • Quick Start Guide

Finally decided to transfer tapes from miniDV camcorder to hard disk. The Sony DCR-PC110 camcorder has a Firewire 1394A port, but my new computer doesn't. It was easy to open my computer case and insert this PCIe card into a free slot (I didn't connect the power input to the card as I don't want to use port 1394 to power devices - I only use it for data transfer). Upon reboot, my Windows 10 OS recognized port 1394. My Adobe Premier Elements software doesn't recognize the camcorder because it'sโ€ฆ

I wanted to return this thing

If you're using an old FireWire cable to connect an old camcorder to a new computer, try buying a dual-language FireWire cable. It finally worked after I got this cable from Monoprice for $5. I actually wanted to return it because I thought it wouldn't work on my new computer. I wanted to archive the MiniDV family tapes from an old Sony DCR-TRV8 before they all fell apart. I tried to connect it for the first time and the computer recognized the FireWire card (Texas Instruments Complaints Hostโ€ฆ

Works with an older graphics scanner

First a little about my systems - ASRock X399 motherboard - AMD Ryzen 2950 processor - Windows 10 Pro I have an old Epson Expressions 1680 -Graphics scanner with USB and FireWire connections. I was never able to get FireWire to work reliably on my last system, so I went with a slower USB but wanted to give FireWire another try. After I installed this card and ran everything, nothing, no errors, no driver issues, it just worked and interacted with the 1680 and I was using 6 year old firewireโ€ฆ
