Spent 4 hours and got angry

Worked great. I managed to remove the front rotor setscrews on my Hyundai Elantra GT. I didn't use the bits that came with it. I used a 3/8 Philips head 3rd penetrating oil. Let stand about 10 minutes. Then place a screwdriver on the screw, hit it with a small sledgehammer with medium force while pushing the screwdriver into the rotor. At about 6 swings, the screw turned a little, another waved and failed. No broken screws! The screws popped out in minutes. Worth every penny. I wish I had had…

Read before returning

I wanted to return this product even though I knew it was defective. In fact, the tool works very well. The problem is that there is no guide explaining how to use it. I've read comments explaining how to set it to loosen or tighten. It wasn't particularly difficult for me personally. Left or L to loosen R or right to tighten. Many comments explain how to do it. The trick is that once you set the tool in the right direction, when you hit it with the hammer, you have to rotate the tool in that…

When I was replacing the bumpers on my Jeep, I came across factory T-55 Torx screws that were covered in Loctite and had been corroded for 12 years. After being doused in solvent for a week, hit with a ball-head hammer, and even heated with a torch to loosen them, they still needed a little extra nudge to thaw them out. This little impact wrench and the T-55 1/2" impact socket broke them all in 3-4 hammer blows. For a cheap impact wrench it did the job (it's going to be a hit) and grew pretty…

Nice tool but no instructions

This tool is a must have for people who need to thaw frozen bolts and it works as well as any others I've used. However, this is such a common tool that the manufacturer seems to have decided that clear instructions are not needed. And for people who have used these things before, this is true. However, if you've never used them before, I suggest you make sure the selector switch is in the correct position by making a mark on the barrel, placing a piece of 2x4 or other handy piece of wood, and…

Crusty Classic Savior

I have a 1978 Honda CB750K that has been sitting since 1987 and the previous owner carefully removed the JIS bolts on the crankcase for me. I bought Vessel JIS Impacta screwdrivers but the screws were so tight and stuck that even a 5 pound hammer wouldn't get them out. I decided to try this guy with the included #3 bit and indeed those stubborn screws came out without removing them any further even though the bits were Philips and not JIS. For $19.40, I'm happy with this shock driver. The only…

Works well for me - no major complaints.

I bought it in February 2012 for the full price of $14.97. It's one of those tools that you don't need very often, but when you do, there's no substitute. I use it from time to time for various motorcycle jobs. Normally I rate products like this: If they work as advertised and the price is fair and the original quality is right for the price, I give five stars and then deduct. Stars if there are usability issues or design flaws, etc. My point is that rarely used tools are hard to test, and this

Great tool, just make sure you set it up right!

Like many others I bought these to work with Honda brakes. It worked great. Don't worry about beats. I suspect people cut them off because installing this tool is a bit counter-intuitive and they can actually tighten fasteners until something fails. (Mark a line on the propeller and on the rotor with a marker to make sure you're moving forward.) Many reviewers mention the lack of instructions. Here they are: Hold the tool with the black bit adapter up and the stainless steel handle down. Note…

Not bad for the price!

Works well when you figure it out. My back. Adjusting it to R will loosen it and L will tighten. It doesn't make any sense to me. However, with some experimentation (and using a 3 pound sled) I was able to loosen the fasteners and snap them back in when the job was done. These were Honda Accord front brake rotor bolts which did not have a torque specification in the factory manual. So I pushed her back with the same force I had used to free her. The finish of the percussion part of the…
