The best noise insulation for a van

We did a lot of research before purchasing. I spent over $500 to insulate my Dodge Ram Promaster 3500. It's worth every penny. I even tested the thing. It just shrinks and melts, no flame. Check out the specs and you'll see that this is a top notch sound and heat insulator. R6 rating.

Good product but lousy 'service'

Works great in the van with Gorilla Spray Glue but I ordered the recommended amount, 50ft for a 58" extended Promaster stem. Arrived weeks late and only needed a 30ft roll. Covered all sides and the ceiling but had to use something else on the floor as it didn't arrive in time to start the project. I was charged $20 (deducted from the refund amount) for returning unopened and unused rolls.

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Some issues

Good product / bad price

I have used Thinsulate in van doors and elsewhere. It's definitely a good thing, but I'm not sure if it's worth the extra money. I would recommend it to anyone on a reasonable budget. Budget builders should look elsewhere, however. Ordinary mineral wool appears to have similar R-value and fire resistance at a fraction of the cost.

The quality you've come to expect from 3M

Thinsulate was purchased as insulation for a Ford Transit Van conversion. Used it on a headliner; front, side and rear doors; and other various areas. The material was of excellent quality, it could be cut with ordinary scissors (good quality) and the attached mesh allowed the material to be pulled through various 'narrow' places. A bit pricey but definitely the right stuff!

  • Automotive
Cons
  • Dull Packaging

Perfect fit for my Van Van

Used over 80ft to double insulate the roof of my Ford Transit High 148 inch. Easy enough to install. Strong scissors (special scissors) are highly recommended, I bought the same Milwaukee from Home Depot for $18. I used about 8 cans of 3M 90 spray adhesive to stick to the walls. The soundproofing is excellent, the thermal insulation is very good. A major downside is the cost of materials, but definitely a quality product.

Pros
  • Body and Fairing
Cons
  • Doubtful

Must be for a van. best insulation

if you insulate a van buy this. I only ordered 30ft and that was only enough for both sides of the 144th sprinter. It's 20C where I am right now, and the temperature of a standard Sprinter isn't going to keep them at a temperature I find comfortable. When the walls were finished, the difference was noticeable. Once the temperature was reached, I reduced the heat to fan speed number one. It's roofless as I didn't have enough to finish it. If you are making overhead rear doors and side panels you
