Not self-sinking. We tried to just shape it and drop it but it floats, we pinned it with a rock and the fish pulled it out. Now he just swims at will. It releases a lot of bubbles and my fish love to just sit in one of the curves and let the bubbles wash over them. But if you're expecting self-flooding, don't count on it.

The air thing is great. Causes blisters. It is not loaded and does not remain on the ground. I bought suction cups to attach to the back of the aquarium. However, my Oscar didn't like it there, and he moved it and swam back. So I had to wrap it around a log. It squeezes some bubbles which is why I bought it but not recommended for stubborn fish like Oscar.

Works very well. It can be hidden under our gravel and still work, which is nice. Really low profile with little tank space. The only downside is that you have to align the outer jacket properly, otherwise it will block some of the air. Although this is a small complaint. If it works for a year I'm happy, but I hope to have more of it!
