I have just received three of these knives. There is NO way to ensure the blade stays outside of the device. it is not easy to use. This makes this very good tool a two-step process, which is why I only gave it a 2-star rating. You must hold the blade in place to use it and complete the task. Don't expect it to act like a steel blade. It's not like that at all. It cuts through the stretched tape on the taped box but struggles to cut through the piece of tape I'm trying to cut off. For those who have the possibility of somehow burning or cutting themselves without trying, even if they are careful, they are great for opening packages and breaking open Cardboard boxes for recycling.
