This is a high visibility rain cover, just what I was looking for in my backpack to protect electronics from getting wet in the rainy PNW winter. However, due to its design and the design of my packs (the shoulder strap starts at the very top of the pack) it does not protect the top of the pack. Also, when the pack is particularly full, it exposes more of the top, effectively exposing a good 34 inches at the top. But I have an extra large backpack because I'm not a backpacker, so maybe others with smaller ones will be fine.
