I have two of these shelves and my cat, 6 months old, loves them. The instructions don't say the brackets are slightly longer on one side, so one of my shelves has a long bracket on one side and a short bracket on the other. It seems to work but looks wobbly. The other shelf has short sides under the shelf and longer sides in the wall, which made sense to this day. When the cat jumped up, the top two anchors came out of the wall completely, pushing the cat and the shelf forward, which was very scary. Attention, the anchors are very cheap and detachable, also the brackets should be placed with the longer side towards the shelf for better stability. A little guidance would have helped prevent a really scary moment for my cat and I.
