Review on NEIKO 02440A 44 Piece Impact Socket Set with Standard SAE and Metric Sizes, Deep and Shallow Kit, Extension Bars and U-Joint Included by Dave Brummet

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great body, quality and variety

Dimensions stamped/rolled and laser engraved. Nice gesture. It would be nice if the engraving matched the locking pin holes, but that collects nits. Phosphate coating, no iron oxide, which is nice. The box says "Made in Taiwan". It's CrV, not CroMo. CrV is more brittle so I've been told the walls would need to be thicker to absorb impact, but they will last longer than CroMo as CroMo will start to warp with use. Presumably CrV will break, CroMo will break instead. I've never seen a head snap when used correctly, so always wear safety goggles when unscrewing and use them however you like. Thicker walls may cause clearance issues around some fasteners. With that odd bolt or two, gaps are likely to be an issue on all sides, so I'll still use an extended box wrench. I was willing to sacrifice the socket's thinner walls for all the other features this set offers. The plastic housing with the sockets gets 5 stars. It has a real hinge, unlike the more expensive brands that use a thin piece of plastic to join the two halves after blow molding. The handle is part of the body and not attached separately, giving it a very solid feel. Also, it has flip clasps instead of clips, which we all know wear out pretty quickly with use. All outlets fit into the bottom shell and appear to stay securely shut if the retaining foam sheet is left in place. I wanted a socket kit that didn't use a top cover to hold the sockets, as removing/replacing these sockets repeatedly wears down the plastic that holds them. The case for this socket set is a strong selling point. It's important to me to be able to safely stow this kit in the car or when repairing mobile devices so the rear loop doesn't come loose and spill its contents all over the trunk. This kit comes with a VERY useful 3/8" to 1./2" shock adapter that I will definitely use for 3/4"-17mm+ sockets when switching between two guns. Virtually no rotation outside the axle on the square drive on the bell side (i.e. you were allowed to cool slowly and properly) The gun is too soon before you are 100% on the buckle The U-joint socket adapter is a little bulky but that shouldn't come as a surprise as it is designed for impact resistance CrV.IMO it should have been removed and made room for a 6" or 8" pan extension OR a small set of 8-12mm 12 point sockets (for gimbal), and all extensions should jiggle although that might just be I'd like Neiko or their parent company to consider a move to Chrome because obviously everyone who builds these kits knows what they're doing I'm very happy anyway, um I recommend this one Purchase I buy a lot from Amazon and seldom browse.

Pros
  • Socket sets
Cons
  • Some little things
