Like everything, there is an expiry date. I think people expect it to last a lifetime - no string will do that; especially how some of my clients treat their devices. A little tidbit - always use two fingers to disconnect and connect the cable. If you rock it, push it at an angle, and believe it or not, scold it like it's your ex, the cord isn't going to last much longer.
