Review on πŸ”§ DMT ABG Blade Guide Alignment Tool by Michael Nard

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Works well but with some pretty serious limitations

I really wanted this clamp but it has some pretty serious design flaws. the fact that the plastic material doesn't scratch the blade like the metal clip system that comes with things like the Lansky sharpening system - Holds my blades very firmly with minimal effort. I had trouble tightening my previous clip on my Benchmade 940. This sharpener does a pretty fantastic job of gripping all of my knives regardless of geometry. Cons: - After adjusting the guide rods a number of times, the small pieces of plastic securing the angle adjustment rods broke off, making it impossible to adjust the angle with just a sharpener. These parts are brittle plastic nipples and break very easily. Combined with the previous negative, it's a bit difficult to get the bars to "snap" into a specific notch. I put masking tape on this sharpener to keep the corners intact. Furnished. I haven't had any issues with this slip, but I'm pretty liberal about attaching tape. Although it broke within the first few days I have to say it works incredibly well with my DMT sharpeners and for the price I really didn't expect it to be an explosion proof part. I think you get what you pay for, but since there really aren't that many great adjustable angle aligners out there, this might still be one of the best options out there.

Pros
  • Made from the highest quality materials
Cons
  • Could have gone for a newer model
