They are strong and can withstand a lot of pressure, but I found a defect that depends on what you are transporting. I need them to tie my kayaks to my trailer. For the ratchet to work properly, they must be fully tightened. This means a click or two more than it seems like a stretch. This is fine for most loads, but it will damage the kayaks. As a result, the cargo can move an inch or two unless they are crushingly tight. This isn't enough to cause damage, but enough to dislodge the hooks and fail the strap. They have to be tightened almost to the point where they can no longer be opened to lose them if necessary. A strap with a hook is better for kayaks or something fragile like boxes. They are great for regular work but not really suited to my kayaking needs. I can use them to store my boats for the winter or even tie a tarp to my storage trailer. and they part.
