I was replacing my Seagate 2TB hard drive when the temperature started to climb to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. This new WD drive operates reliably at 87 degrees Fahrenheit. and all the necessary details. What I received was a six line pamphlet explaining the obvious for installation and four screws. For software, you will be directed to their website. So don't pay the extra $30 for a kit; Buy a package of barebones. Also, I couldn't get my Win7 to recognize the WD drive being used as the second non-OS drive. BIOS detected and activated. I did a direct exchange with Seagate and assumed there was no need to change anything in the BIOS. I called WD support and the level 1 tech couldn't figure out what was wrong so he referred me to level 2 and after a long period of troubleshooting told me to call HP for support. However, after doing a little more research (on many forums), I found that the BIOS RAID management should be set to AHCI instead of RAID (choices: AHCI, RAID, and IDE). (Note that this is only the case if you are using any two hard drives on the same controller as HP configured this computer.) Not sure why Seagate's original hard drive worked with the "RAID" setting.
