It uses the same type of cartridge as my previous printer.

I had just ordered and received three black ink cartridges and two color ink cartridges when my previous printer broke. I thought I ordered the same model but got the TR4527 which I really like. This model is better than TR4520. The TR4527 uses the same type of ink cartridge as my previous printer. It accepts paper, whether multipurpose paper or carbon paper. The print quality is good. Haven't printed any photos yet. The TR4527 prints one less step for faster printing (compared to the TR4520). As always, Canon's customer service has been excellent.
