Review on Dorman 7 123 Water Temperature Gauge by Christian Byrd

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Well, while it lasted. died 10 months later.

*Update: crashed after about 10 months. The arrow on the manometer does not even move in the cold. Tried to dip the sensor in boiling water and nothing. Connection rating up to 1 star. I was hoping that a non-electrical sensor would be more reliable, now I have to disassemble the entire dash to remove the old sensor instead of just replacing the sensor. First review: I just installed this sensor and am very happy with it. It was not clear from the product description how all the parts fit together (particularly how the sensor attaches to the fitting) so I have included some photos with this review. The sensor was long enough for my application and was easy to install. Being a mechanical sensor I didn't have to run any wires and can even see the coolant temp after turning the engine off (good for diagnosing cooling issues). I don't care about the green color of the backlight (see photo with 9V power supply) and my dash has its own white light backlight which illuminates the light sufficiently that I ended up just removing the backlight completely (see photos of it). one). how it's connected) which meant I didn't have to wire anything at all for this setup. Time will tell, but so far it's working great and giving accurate readings (I have a 195F thermostat and it agrees well with the reading when warming up). I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't currently have a temp gauge in their car. Also note that the smallest sensor adapter in this kit is 1/4 NPT which will not fit the 1/8 NPT female aluminum radiator hose adapter I purchased (ASIN B08BL1QJD1). I'm not sure if you can even buy those 1/4" NPT adapters. I ended up having to buy a 1/4" NPT pipe valve, drill and re-tap the radiator hose adapter which was a major hassle.. So I docked this kit to 1 Star because I didn't use the standard 1/8 NPT probe fitting.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
