Overall a well-made, nice headphone, but not an exceptional audio device. In terms of clarity, ease of reproduction and neutrality they are IMHO not as good as even mid-range headphones from AKG or Sennheiser, HifiMan etc. and I cannot recommend them based on the sound quality. My usual headphones are AKG 712 or old Shure E4 headphones. I tested them on an LG V30 with a quad DAC and a Fiio portable headphone amp. First the fit - I have an unusually large head. XXL hats are almost big enough. Of the many headphones I've heard of lately, these barely fit due to the limited travel. While they do indeed have a behind-the-ear design, this is hardly true. They will touch your whole ear unless you have small ears. The wearing comfort of the strap corresponds to what one would expect from photos. There's just enough spring to ensure a consistent fit, but there's no padding at the head. If you are at all sensitive to them, go ahead, you will not feel comfortable wearing them for long periods of time. Studio-style AKGs that you can wear all day and don't stand out in comparison. The choice of barely-enough earcups also makes them really good noise-isolating headphones. They're really good for offices and noisy environments for those who don't like headphones. Now tonal balance. I started writing this review in a very positive light. Good soundproofing cans that are too relaxed. When I switched to AKG I realized that those aren't very good sounding cans, certainly not at full retail. The tight ear fit gives you unusually good bass with maybe a little extra boom, and yes, many AKG models lack bass, but the bad news is that for me the mids and highs are noticeably lower compared to my other two pairs. . I'm listening to Chet Baker's Milano Sessions and the trumpet sound is too soft and lacks some nice details to be enjoyable. The move to AKG was day and night. Across the spectrum, AKGs show how overdriven and sluggish these headphones sound. The MH40 doesn't play music as much as marbles. The best example I can give is listening to a speaker with a bad tweeter. It's really that bad. I really can't recommend a purchase and I have no idea why any reviewer called the highs "crunchy". Serious? Not the pair I have.
