I bought this set of 4 stand up chairs so I can use my favorite chair after hip surgery. Without the risers, the chair sits too low on the floor and I wouldn't be able to use it safely. With risers, the chair is now quite high. No installation. The chair simply stands on the risers. It seems safe and secure, but I'll admit to being wary of sitting in my chair. Once I have fully recovered from the surgery I can remove the risers and use the chair as before. Seems like the perfect solution to a temporary problem.
