Review on πŸ”§ Compact True-RMS Digital Multimeter - Fluke 115 by Gregory Sirgio

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great gauge! LCD Contrast Fix

I bought my Fluke 115 new from Revain in March 2016. Fantastic measuring device with a low-contrast display, at least that's what I thought. Read on if you are having display problems with these Fluke Series (114, 115, 117) DMM models. BENEFITS: - Accurate, high quality body and stand, easy to use - Convenient min/max and range functions - Perfect size and accuracy for 95% of what I do with a DMM in my engineering lab - Rugged, although mine was in my closed lab all my life (4 years) - Fluke reliability and reliability except for. - Good value for money. has a narrow usable field of view until you correct it. - Fluke must have been going through a real quality control challenge for a while and my meter failed during that time :( - Fluke: you owe us 60 minutes of research and 45 minutes of work to fix the display! ast helps a lot) low contrast LCD display: - Dismantle micrometer by screw - one for the case/battery stand - two for the back cover - four for the PCB with the metal shield attached with 2 of 4 - three for the metal bracket for the sensor entry - gently slide the PCB block out - VERY gently pry off the dark gray plastic bezel of the LCD and. - Carefully pry the top zebra connector off the circuit board (looks like self-adhesive but not too hard) - Carefully peel off the white LCD. PCB Illuminated Bezel. Use an eraser to gently clean the zebra connector's gold-plated pads on the circuit board. Be careful but gentle. - ***** It turns out that DAS is causing the problem. - Gently clean the zebra connector strip on the back of the display AND the copper pads on the circuit board with alcohol and a lint-free cloth (use a Q-tip as last option but remove "hair"). - While holding the patient open, clean the other gold-plated pads on the circuit board for the switches in the same way (eraser, alcohol). - Thoroughly clean the glass surfaces of the display and the backlight frame. Don't allow static electricity to bring back dust or parts. - You must use ESD protection so static electricity may not be a problem. Make sure these screen surfaces are clean before reassembling. - INTERESTING NOTE ON MY: There was a "dot" of foam in my display and 3 small lints that bothered me for 4 years. Small dust particles too. I couldn't tell what caused the tiny shadows on the display, but now I know. CONCLUSION: This Fluke test tool was NOT factory assembled under clean conditions. You can do better, Fluke! We all know you can! - Reassemble carefully in reverse order. DO NOT overtighten the screws as they will penetrate the plastic. Turn the meter back on and see if your display's contrast and viewing angles have improved. My changes were significant! - No more tiny shadow spots caused by deposits during initial assembly inside - Contrast is improved by at least 3:1 (qualitative rating) - Viewing angles are significantly better from all angles, especially when looking at the display from below - Backlighting has been improved Better contrast, less glare, much better light balance (although two LEDs should be used instead of one). - I feel like I have a brand new gauge that is MUCH easier to read in all usage scenarios in my lab and at home. Fluke: This could have been a 5 star rating if you paid attention to cleanliness during assembly.
