Review on πŸ“Ά Cisco-Linksys WRT600N Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router with Storage Link - Ultra RangePlus by Travis Coffman

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Very nice upgrade - a little careful

I bought the WRT600N to replace my old G-based Buffalo WiFi router. I recently bought a laptop with N support built in, also I was looking for better coverage and more features. This router seems to fit the bill. The laptop connects everywhere in my apartment with an excellent signal level at a speed of 270 Mbps. I can't ask for much more. The signal strength on my other wireless devices (2 Tivos and PS3) is also excellent. 90%+. I rated it 4 stars for 2 reasons: 1. My two Tivos unexpectedly lost connection. You have lost the assigned address. The reconfiguration was pretty painless, but I've had similar issues with Linksys hardware before (back in the B-days), so I settled on the Buffalo hardware. I've had a Buffalo G router for 5 years and have never had to reset it. Not once. Seeing Tivos lose their addresses is a little unsettling. Installation from the included CD was almost seamless, but not quite. It couldn't detect my internet connection. I've continued with the rest of the setup and everything seems to have gone well. I tried to access web settings but for some reason my new admin password was not recognized. After using admin/admin I was able to access it and all my other settings (SSID, password etc.) were there. Re-entering the admin password in the web setup worked. After turning off the computer and turning the router and cable modem on and off, everything worked fine. I have configured the QoS setting for my VOIP phone and it seems to be working fine; anyway no problem. I will be back in 30 days. If Tivos had stayed in touch and there hadn't been any other issues I would give this product a 5 star rating. Stay with us. ----- UPDATE: 8/7/08 ----- I've had my router for a little over a month now. I left town for about a week and when I came back I had to reboot the router to get it working. I'm not sure what could have caused the problem (probably a power outage), so I don't mind the router. Connections are not broken, it works fine. It recognizes my 2 Tivo, PS3 and laptop with no problems and the signal strength is excellent. I don't know what to attribute other people's problems to, but it worked fine for me. At this point I would give the product 5 stars.
