Review on Noctua NF F12 PWM 4 Pin Premium by Ryan Fuhrer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

very good fan overall but overall not a great fan considering the price

Yes it's a good fan and overall I'm happy with it but. I replaced the old CPU fan with this one. The old fan, which was also quiet (though not as quiet as this one at the same speeds), lasted 5.5 years and still seemed to pump more air at the same speeds. I then monitored the CPU temperature to make sure everything was fine. To my surprise, the temperature was noticeably higher than before, albeit within what is considered normal. In order to get the temperature down to the level it was before replacing the fan, I had to go into the BIOS and set the CPU fan to spin no slower than 65% of maximum at all times. So now my CPU fan is spinning at 1000 RPM, and while the old fan was very quiet, it seemed to be able to get the same temperature at around 350 RPM. If it was a $5 or $10 fan I would give it 5 stars, but it's a $20 fan so I expected more than I got, although I have to stress that it's quiet overall is when it's set at 1000rpm and cool enough. System. The system is not overclocked. I built my own computer in 2011. It was a top then, and even by today's standards, it's a very capable computer. My goal is to keep it running for another 5 years before replacing it and we all know that the biggest enemy of computer parts is heat. I have high hopes that this fan will live up to its 150,000 hour lifespan.

Pros
  • I'm holding my fists
Cons
  • No performance
