Fills needs well but conflicting image

I really wanted to like this device. I had an older version about a year ago that worked, but at some point the display started to "flash". This worked during the initial setup, even after setting the DIP switches depending on the cable length, but it was bumpy at best. At some point, after a year, the picture on the TV kept flickering to the point of being unusable. I saw that a newer version was available that included some fixes from the previous version, so I decided to give it a try. After a month or two, the flickering seems to return. Not terrible, but it still does. I've tried many different DIP switches/spacing settings - only one setting works. All others do not result in a picture. I really liked the device because it had a built in splitter and I had to split the signal before I could transmit it over CAT5. But I ended up buying a separate HDMI/CAT5 splitter and extender (which didn't have a splitter) and it seems to produce a flicker free picture right out of the box. So while the multi-device solution is less elegant and results in more power cords, it works flawlessly and is stable, which is why I won't be using this device again. The weird thing is that the new HDMI extender didn't even have distance compensation settings, but it worked right out of the box with no picture quality issues.
