Review on ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ Black Carago Aluminum Metal Armor Cooling Case for Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, with Passive Cooling Column - Compatible with Raspberry Pi 4B only by Justin Wallace

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Clean build case, perfect fit for the Pi 4B, included thermal tape is useless

This was the cheapest of the similarly designed fanless aluminum cases for the Pi 4. The case is as solid as armor for your RPi and well made ; There are no rough edges, seams are aligned and smooth, and externally accessible components sit right where they need to be. I like that the case uses hex screws instead of Phillips screws, making it difficult to remove the tiny screw heads. However, there is one thing that is cause for concern; This case also includes 3M 9448A, THERMAL TAPE, NOT THERMAL TAPE you would use with a radiator like this case. If you look at this product number on the 3M website, you will see that 9448A is used for bonding or bonding and is not in the same product line as thermal conduction products. I used a small amount of baby clay to measure thickness. Gap between each of the 3 pillars of the case and the chips they need to cover and the thickness appears to be the same as a standard plastic credit card (estimated by eye). I have a variety of thermal compounds to try in place of the tape that came with them, but I'm not sure they can fill the gap. The picture of the case I received differs from what is described as included but fits the Pi 4B well. Blackboard. Finally, I won't be doing thermal testing on this case, just assuming it works to dissipate some heat with the actual thermal interface material between the components and the case. For my use, this case will be installed in a temperature-controlled room with high airflow, so the passive cooling should be more than adequate.

Pros
  • Cool
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
