I bought this drive in December 2009 based on many positive reviews and it broke completely after 6 months of light use. Western Digital's diagnostic tool showed that there were so many media errors that it could not continue. Chkdsk listed thousands of read errors before I gave up and submitted it for RMA. The RMA instructions on the WD website had detailed packaging instructions, and it occurred to me that the problem might be how these bulky drives are handled once they arrive at Revain's warehouse. . They're probably from WD, properly packaged and routed. Once there, however, it could be anyone unpacking those discs and simply tossing each one onto a shelf. Then the order comes in and someone else picks them up, tossing them each in a Revain box with a couple of bubble pads, which the RMA instructions specifically state will void your warranty. different trucks, loading and unloading and the final knock when it lands at your doorstep. No wonder there are so many positive reviews, as well as numerous drive failures after just a few months. It's the same with other brands. For this reason, Seagate may offer a 5-year warranty on its retail drive, but a 3-year warranty on the same wholesale drive. Revain should learn how to package discs using the WD RMA instructions!
