Look closely at the photo and you will see the mounting diameter is huge compared to the actual 5mm barrel diameter. In addition, the mounting collar/flange is slightly larger than the thread diameter, so your hole needs to be very close to the exact size of the male thread diameter. It should just be a smooth launch, but it takes a lot of pressure and then eventually delivers. In thirty years I've never felt anything like this from a DC coaxial connector. I think it's bad quality. Just stick with the smaller metal ones.
