So far I have found nothing wrong with this particular tester. I'm going to play around with a tricky question, but it's almost a universal little thing to choose from, so that's fine. Incidentally, this test should be viewed in conjunction with my review of the TrendNet TC-TP1 Tone Probe, as the two tools are closely related. and make up the bulk of my network installation test/verification equipment. The tester comes well packaged with basic documentation. The basic battery compartment, like most other cable testers I've used to date, is too flexible when the compartment is empty, and it feels like you're about to stick your finger in when you first open the compartment. But once the battery is installed, there is enough support and the lid works smoothly. Ports, switches, and displays are well labeled and easy to understand. Connect the cable and either reconnect to the cable or to the remote and plug in, press the test button or press the silver button to test one cable at a time. The tone generated from one point of view is somewhat weak (not loud in the probe), but at the same time the tone generated does not "penetrate" to other cables in the bundle. Confusion on which cable the signal is transmitted is excluded, which simplifies cable identification and speeds up work. Ethernet to BNC adapters for testing coaxial cables with a BNC connector are great for troubleshooting Token Ring networks. But let's face it. It's unlikely anyone else uses Token Ring, and a large number of young technicians and administrators have never heard of, let alone seen Token Ring. I've been in this business for a long time and my only involvement with Token Ring was porting Token Ring to Ethernet. So the usage there is VERY limited. However, with the addition of BNC male adapters to coaxial jack adapters, the tester is well suited for testing the integrity of RG-6 coaxial cables for cable internet, television, and satellite applications. the storage case is by far the highest quality case/case of any network tester i have ever seen or held in my hands. I am amazed at the quality of this item. Every other one I've owned or had close by contained a flimsy, super-thin vinyl garbage bag that a manufacturer should be ashamed to associate their product with. The TrendNet bag has high quality materials, good stitching. There's nothing cheap about that. The cost is significantly higher than many other low/mid range cable testers, but when you consider that it's also a halftone kit and probe, the cost becomes MUCH more reasonable. Considering the accuracy of this particular device and the flexibility of the tests available, this is a real benefit.
