Well I'm the complete opposite of a techie and was able to easily pair it with my old smartphone and get it playing. I love that I can use Siri to say something like "Play as Alan Jackson" on my phone and it connects directly to my headphones. This is ideal for chores around the house, gardening, etc., if you don't like cables from regular headphones constantly getting in your way. Plus, no tangles! :) I have no idea how they compare to the expensive ones, but they fit my needs. Just charge, plug in, listen. :) Have to wait and see how long the battery lasts. Husband is much more demanding than me and said it just sounded like music was playing through the phone speaker. I agree, but they're only $25, so.
