Seachem Pristine is great for keeping water clean. Its main effect is to break down certain waste products with the help of various bacteria. As a result, fewer small particles float in the water, making it appear more transparent. However, I use Stability in combination with Pristine as Stability is better at starting or maintaining the nitrogen cycle in the tank. Presumably they use different bacterial cultures. In my experience, this does next to nothing to the mulch that can form on the bottom of the tank, as the company claims. If you overfeed from time to time like I sometimes do, you still need to suck up the leftovers. It is sometimes difficult to vacuum when particles get into dense vegetation. I was hoping this product would help break it down faster so my filtering could get rid of it. This product will not solve this problem and does not appear to have any effect on Mulma. This is a task I've never found a safe chemical to get rid of. You still need to clean the bottom of the aquarium regularly. What this product does for me is stop or minimize the turbidity that can result from tiny floating particles in the water itself. To be honest, I probably won't buy any more of these. Its usefulness, other than clean water, is dwarfed by other Seachem products I use that achieve essentially the same result. Seachem products overlap in functionality in many ways and this product is no different than any other Seachem product. The advantage of Seachem products is that they can be used together to achieve the desired effect in the aquarium. But the truth is that there is nothing wrong with regularly cleaning the aquarium. Seachem's range of chemicals and bacterial colonies can help. But you get the purest and clearest water when you have a clean tank that you maintain in this way with manual cleaning. I use Seachem products regularly to help. But for me, the Pristine product is one of the features that I have found using other Seachem products. I use Prime as a chlorine remover and to remove chlorine bleach from Purigen refills, which cleans my water fairly well, but not like Pristine. I use AmGuard on ammonia spikes to trap ammonia (NH3 becomes NH4) and not overload my nitrogen cycle. I use Stability to restart or replenish the bacterial colonies needed to keep the nitrogen cycle going. I use the Seachem ammonia badge to test for non-toxic ammonia (NH3) to get a better idea of toxicity than the total ammonia test (NH3 + NH4) like the API tests do. So I'm not new to Seachem products. I swear to you. Sometimes I have shrimp pellets or scales floating under a rock or in a plant that is difficult to clean. I was hoping that the bacteria in this product would be able to quickly break down that haze or sludge that forms with its unique non-stability bacteria. But unfortunately I don't see much of a pristine effect beyond the level of decay that usually occurs in my tank. For me it just cleans the water a little more than my Purigen. Each of us should try different products together to see what works best for our aquariums. But since all Seachem products work well together and overlap in functionality, it can sometimes be a bit more difficult to figure out which Seachem product is responsible for what during initial testing. waste to ammonia. So if your nitrogen cycle isn't running well yet, be prepared for ammonia spikes. Of course, it's supposed to help retain ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. But it does it slower than other Seachem products like Seachem AmGuard. Therefore, you should experiment to find the best combination of products to solve problems that your cleaning doesn't solve. When used alone, you will likely see some improvement in water quality from the use of Pristine. My results were negligible because I already have pretty clean water. In combination with other Seachem products you can achieve a greater effect.
