Review on Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Fixed Lens - Discontinued by Manufacturer by Lang Lang Buana ᠌

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Disappointed with the product, not good for anything.

Soap lens with overshooting autofocus. On open apertures 1.8 - 2.4 misses, the pictures are not sharp. 1 shot out of 10 will turn out more or less, and then if you're lucky. One advantage - on the “crop” it turns into a “portrait”, with a focal length of 80 mm. And with an aperture of 1.8 - 2.4, it creates the blurry background (bokeh) that is so significant for most photographers. But along with the bokeh, the portrait itself is not sharp. Moreover, the central autofocus point can be aimed correctly (on the subject's eye). For beginners who have jumped from soapboxes to DSLRs, this lens is considered a cult lens, which is actually expected at such a modest price. But for that kind of money, the quality of the lens itself will also be modest and the quality of the photos will be similar. I recently checked in the store for “front-back” focus of 10 new lenses. The lens is now supplied in some new, gray packaging. Not the same white as before and the lid is different. So, all samples behave incomprehensibly, many have a “front-back” focus, which is very noticeable on the scale! On open apertures, even with a tripod, it is difficult to get a sharp picture of the scale. I am sure that beginners should not buy it, so as not to complain about bad shots and be disappointed in “expensive SLR photography”. Personally, I used this lens for about a year and then sold it, which I do not regret! Many shots came out with an autofocus miss, which was constantly annoying. Plastic lens mount. The focus ring is narrow, manual control is inconvenient. In my estimated opinion, the Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM is the best replacement for the fifty dollars! It can be safely positioned as the best “regular fix”, of course, in a limited price range up to 6,000 thousand for a “crop”. Pros of this lens: High optical performance! Sharp shots wide open, focusing speed. Compact! Well made, metal bayonet. Few misses.

Pros
  • Price. bokeh.
Cons
  • Autofocus misses. Soapy, not harsh. Front / back focus on many instances. Design.
