Review on Wireless Earbuds for TV - Avantree HT380 by Christina Reynolds

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Best wireless earphone system for fixed audio sources, especially for people with hearing impairments.

I have an 80% hearing loss in one ear compared to the other and I've tried a range of Bluetooth earbuds to get music and videos back to stereo. This system is the best I have ever seen. The main reason is probably that it is NOT Bluetooth, but a dedicated one-way wireless RF (WLAN) connection. I know this because the transmitter and receiver will not pair with any Bluetooth audio device, have much better volume and fidelity than the best (Samsung) Bluetooth earbuds, have NO audio latency with video, and stay connected with no signal loss across at least four 50 house walls foot away. Best of all, the receiver has good balance controls, giving me equivalent hi-fi stereo at more than adequate volume. The transmitter has three predefined sound "modes" besides Flat, but I'd prefer Treble/Bass controls instead. The included earbuds look cheap and small but are surprisingly very good and for my ears the most comfortable I've tried, although you can just plug in your own headset. My only complaint is that the earbud cords are too short, but an extension cord fixes that. Not only does it come with an extra battery, but the transmitter/charger has a separate charging port for it in addition to the receiver's charging port. The battery is proprietary so you can only get replacements from the vendor, probably the only real negative. They supply adapters for almost every audio connection imaginable and even a microphone for old TVs that don't have an external connection. Finally, there's a large button on the receiver that turns the earbuds into a two-ear ambient hearing aid, which is actually very good, albeit mono. The ads show old folks wearing what appears to be the antenna, but I just roll it up and put the receiver in my pocket. This system is worth its price.

  • Nice
Cons
  • Good but not great
