Review on C. Carnahan Supreme Precision Forged Wedges by Jerry Frey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

You are wrong. Of course, these wedges don't have the high-tech face milling found on Vokey or Callaway Mack Daddy wedges, nor do they come with fancy finish options and custom stamping, but if you want wedges that perform well and last a long time, good you are not only interested in impressing your buddies on the track, you should try Carnahans. (One of the downsides of the fancy milling on the areas between the grooves is that it wears out fairly quickly, so clubs with this feature work very well, but for a relatively short period of time.) The 56° Carnahan Wedge has a classic sole grind, the , I've found, offers great versatility on a wide variety of surfaces and fires with lively energy from the forged steel head. Carnahan advertises a 2 gram weight increase over the standard 52° and 56° wedges and I have felt the difference between this stick and my old Hogan wedges (2 different styles). However, it only took me a few hits to get used to the weight of the Carnahan wedge and in no time it felt very comfortable in my hands. This baton has worked well for me with both standard address and open face. to enlarge the attic. I've found that I can control the trajectory of my short chips quite well by changing the angle of the face at the pivot point without feeling affected by the sole of the club interacting differently with the turf in different positions - a very important feature of the wedge in my opinion . One caveat: Carnahan Golf advertises these vintage forged wedges as well as V-groove wedges on their website, and while they don't specifically state that the grooves on the face of the vintage wedges are older, they do not conform to the U V-groove Keys, state that V-groove keys meet the latest USGA specifications. I searched the USGA database for the appropriate clubs and found no Carnahan Vintage Forged Wedges in the list. Wagered with caution and assuming the vintage line falls short, they're good for recreational play but not USGA competition. Not that anyone's checking, but if you're playing to set a USGA handicap, the pre-rule grooves will last through 2024 - and if you're playing any frequency, you'll still be jaded to nothing by then.
